The Bonnie Award
AMERICAN AIRLINES / BRAND ACTION
Hollywood lacks diversity. In fact, at the time we created this award, only one woman had won best director at a major award show in film in the last century. When American Airlines asked us to come up with an idea that showed how they were committed to the future of Hollywood, we used it as an opportunity to help change that statistic and Hollywood.
In partnership with the Independent Spirit Film Awards, we created The Bonnie Award to recognize and fund female directors. The first Bonnie Award was given to Chloe Zhao for her film "The Rider" at the Film Independent Spirit Awards by Ava DuVernay. Chloe went on in 2021 to be the first woman of color to EVER have won a best director award at the Oscars with her film "Nomadland."
In addition to creating the award, we also created The Bonnie Channel, a curated collection of female directed films to help shine a light on female directors' work that played on American Airlines inflight entertainment.
