The Bonnie Award
AMERICAN AIRLINES / BRAND ACTION
Hollywood lacks diversity. In fact, only one woman has won best director at a major award show in film in the last century. When American Airlines approached us with this assignment, we knew we had the opportunity to create something that could do more than just promote the airline. It could impact Hollywood culture for the better. And so, we created The Bonnie Award.
Inspired by Bonnie Tiburzi Caputo, the first female pilot to fly for a major U.S. airline when she joined American Airlines, The Bonnie Award recognizes female directors with a remarkable body of work that demonstrates their uniqueness of vision and groundbreaking approach to film.
The first Bonnie Award was given to Chloe Zhao in the form of a $50,000 unrestricted grant funded by American Airlines, which was awarded at the Film Independent Spirit Awards by the amazing Ava DuVernay.
We also created The Bonnie Channel, a curated collection of female directed films, trailers and content on American Airlines inflight entertainment.
